Emirates - Private First Class Suites

You can check in online between two to 24 hours before departure. While checking in, you'll also be able to select your preferred seat or add a frequent flyer number. Pretty much anyone can use the online checkin, even if travelling with children or in groups. (For the latter, this must be done by the "lead" or first named passenger)  You will need your PNR (Passenger Name Record) which is a random jumble of letters and numbers, something like "2RS4TY". This is called the booking reference on Electronic Tickets, or, if you still have a paper ticket, it is located slap bang in the middle of the ticket.  You will be required to enter any Advanced Passenger Information (API) for those countries that require it, viz: Oz, China, Korea, New Zealand, UK, the USA and Canada (Canada???!! Who would do anything to Canada?? I mean - a country where even the female impersonators are women). You do not need a printer for Emirates check-in.

Please note that children under 5 are not accepted for the Unaccompanied Minors service. For the purposes of fares, any passenger aged 12 or over is considered an adult. However, passengers between the ages of 12 and 17 are not eligible to accompany Unaccompanied Minors in the absence of a passenger who is 18 years or older. In such cases, both passengers would be considered Unaccompanied Minors and the adult fare would be applicable for both.

"To avoid any inconvenience to your child, if there is another airline included in the itinerary, we recommend that the connecting time at transfer points not be more than four hours. If Dubai is the transfer point, the maximum permitted connecting time is eight hours. This is because we have a dedicated Emirates' Special Handling Unit that can take care of minors. We cannot accept Unaccompanied Minors and Young Passengers for journeys with transfer connections involving either an overnight stay at a transfer point or a transfer between two airports at the connecting point, unless the parent or guardian has arranged for the child to be met and cared for at the transfer point (and these arrangements are confirmed by the local Emirates office) or if the minor is travelling with an adult escort."

If you want to just change, review or add special services to a booking then you should use the "booking manager". Specific medical needs are covered by contacting the local Emirates office (..er, use the telephone directory!) Medical needs will probably require a "MEDIF" and/ or "Fit to Fly" letters from your healthcare practitioner (Doctor).
My Ease of Use Rating: 7/10 - Features 6/10

If you are new to online check-in then you may want to read some of my notes, first!

Above all, never, ever, ever check in anywhere, anyhow other than for the flight you are about to take. No matter what - UNLESS you are 150% certain that nothing will possibly ever change. You would not believe how complicated life can become if you check in for the return flight (thinking you are saving time) and then find you need to change it. Trust me.

Unaccompanied Minors are children above 5 and under 12 years of age travelling alone, and are entitled to Unaccompanied Minors service, as long as they are travelling on a full adult fare ticket. In other words, you have to buy an ADULT ticket to use the UM service. No wonder the UM service is free.
